SugarCane Press-Mud (SPM), is a byproduct derived from sugarcane industry, which is rich in protein as well as minerals. The effects of dietary inclusion of SPM at different levels on the carcass characteristics of lambs were evaluated.
SugarCane Press Mud is the residue of the filtration of sugarcane juice. The clarification process separates the juice into a clear juice that rises to the top and goes for manufacture, and a mud that collects at the bottom.
Press mud is the compressed sugar industry waste produced during filtration of cane juice. Press mud has lots of applications like fertilisers, for extraction of chemicals, as biosorbent, animal feed and in manufacture of cement.
Sugarcane press mud contains many nutrients, so it can be applied as organic manure to the crop and composted for value addition for easy uptake by the plants. Generally, the compost sample contains C/N ratio of 725.95, total potassium of 1.43%, and total organic carbon of 12.53%.
SugarCane is grown in various kinds of soils, such as red volcanic soils and alluvial soils of rivers. The ideal soil is a mixture of sand, silt, and clay particles, with a measure of organic material.
